To End Threat of Nuclear Iran Means Ending the Regime

For the Iranian people, a recent number of protests show how much life under the regime has deteriorated. The people struggle with high unemployment, a currency that is devalued, and sanctions that can cripple its viable industries. In the wake of the U.S. pulling out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the regime is struggling to maintain its fragile hold on the Iranian people, who are growing frustrated with the corruption and watching their families go hungry while the regime funds its wars and military objectives throughout the region.
In light of all these developments, the annual meeting of the Iranian resistance, to be held in Paris on June 30, is truly a chance to show the international community an alternative to the Iranian regime.
“After several decades of appeasing the religious fascism ruling Iran and victimizing the Iranian people and Resistance, and simultaneous with the U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, the President of the United States declared that the lavish payments to the clerical regime by the previous U.S. administration had been disastrous, adding that the sinister regime ruling Iran, the leading state sponsor of terror in the world today, has funded its long reign of chaos and terror by plundering the wealth of its own people,” said Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), a coalition of Iranian resistance groups including the PMOI/MEK, in a recent statemen.
Rajavi noted that the only way to eliminate the threat of a nuclear Iran is to eliminate the Iranian regime. For years, Rajavi has called on the international community to get tough on the regime and to stop the measures that she has repeatedly called appeasement of the mullahs.
On June 30, the international community will also get a taste of what a democratic Iran would look like, as Rajavi, Iranians, and their supporters gather to discuss the current situation in Iran. Their message is short and precise, that Iran has a democratic alternative and that Iran would not descend into chaos as the regime claims.
The recent rounds of protests confirm the message of the 2017 gathering that the regime’s end is close. The Iranian people are championing change within their country and on the international scene.
For too long, the Iranian people’s wishes for regime change have been ignored. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have expanded their influence throughout the Iranian economy and in military operations throughout the region. If the international community wants to support the Iranian people, then they need to cut the purse strings of the IRGC.
“It is time to listen to the Iranian people and set aside the old inertia and look at the alternative to the mullahs and the prospect of a new Iran, a Free Iran,” said a statement announcing the event.
